After breakfast, you’ll leave Arusha and begin the two-hour trip to Tarangire National Park.
Along the route, you’ll see how the terrain changes as the urban jungle of Arusha gives way to wide-open grasslands and picturesque Masai communities. When you check-in at the park, you’ll get the opportunity to witness mischievous monkeys darting around in the shade, as well as pose with a massive Baobab at the park’s entrance.
Once entering the park, you’ll witness the Tarangire River, which is flanked with acacia and Baobab trees and where wildlife amble around all day.
Dozens of animals from the Masai steppe travel to the Tarangire region in search of water during the dry season, allowing you to view lots of different species in a short period of time.
Endangered creatures including the Greater Kudu, Fringe-Eared Oryx, and Ashy Starling are only found in the park.
Take in an unrivaled vista of the Tarangire River while enjoying a picnic lunch at one of the park’s picnic spots. Keep an eye on your food, though, because if given the chance, the local monkey colony will happily steal a delectable treat!
Late in the afternoon, you’ll return to Arusha.
Traditional Maasai lodgings are available in the Olpopongi Maasai cultural community. You will have the opportunity to experience daily life as a Maasai and learn about what it means to be a ‘Maasai in the Maasai village.
The settlement is in the midst of nowhere (west-Kilimanjaro), where elephants and giraffes graze freely in the shadows of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. A very thrilling and one-of-a-kind adventure.

Begin your mini-adventure with a short but intriguing journey from Moshi to Materuni, around 1,800 meters above sea level, on the verdant slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. This is a market garden country, with the ideal climate and soil conditions for growing some of Africa’s best coffee. You’ll go to a coffee farm and learn about how coffee is cultivated, harvested, and processed, as well as try your hand at roasting and producing a fresh cup of Chagga coffee. You’ll enjoy a wonderful 45-minute stroll through the hills and valleys en route to the Materuni Falls after a delightful coffee break (far better than the ones at work!).
You’ll pass through banana and coffee plantations, mini-valleys, ridges, and narrow splashing rivulets. Your guide will teach you about local flora and how they are utilized for food and traditional medicine along the route, as well as provide you with further information about the Chagga culture. It’s your chance to inquire about a lifestyle that’s most likely somewhat different from your own! You’ll hear the Falls before seeing them, and if you’re lucky, you’ll see a rainbow sheen as the splashing waters split the light. The Falls are tucked away in a beautiful valley with 200-foot-high cliffs.
The mountain streams fall in a glimmering curtain into the swirling pool, where you can float, swim, and relax out – literally, for these are pure mountain waters that have not yet been warmed by the sun. But we’re sure it’ll be appreciated after your hike.
After breakfast, you’ll leave Arusha and begin your journey to Lake Manyara National Park. The journey will take about two hours, but we’ll stop in Mto Wa Mbu, a market town along the way. This agricultural and fresh produce market is a mash-up of local cultures and a treasure trove for souvenir hunters.
You’ll enter Lake Manyara National Park after a brief halt at the town market. The safari park is a photographer’s dream come true, with some of the best wildlife watching in the world. Many of Africa’s most well-known creatures can be seen, with tree-climbing lions being a special treat. These magnificent predators are virtually begging to be photographed as they sunbathe in acacia trees.

Meru and sometimes even Mt. Kilimanjaro may be seen from here. For reptiles and birds, it’s a haven. You’ll arrive, and our guide will lead you down to the lake’s edge, passing past vibrant green flora and up to the blue, blue lake ahead. Wear sturdy footwear near the lake because it gets rather rough.
It’s a beautiful site for hikers and birdwatchers, and if you go during the right season, you might even see elephants gathering at a nearby waterhole. Spend the day strolling around the lake or across the neighboring savannah, where you’ll likely spot baboons, vervet monkeys, and blue monkeys, as well as the shy dik-dik and beautiful kudu.
Spend some time relaxing by the lakeside after your hike, surrounded solely by birdsong and the gentle lapping of the water.
If you want to get a little more active, you can rent a kayak and go on a ride around the lake. As you row, the ever-present chirping and soft splashing of the water will enchant you.
Stop at the bar after your travels for a drink (alcoholic or otherwise) and, if you’re hungry, an afternoon snack. You’ll be taken back to Moshi in the late afternoon if you haven’t chosen to camp at the Lake (think campfire beneath the stars). The relaxing trip will allow you to think on your day and wonder if it would be impolite to go straight to bed when you get home – you won’t believe how sleepy you’ll be after a day of stress-relieving tranquility.
