Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant mountain in Tanzania. Mount Kilimanjaro has three Volcanoes Peak: Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world: 5,895 metres above sea level.

7 Days Machame route Kilimanjaro Climbing plus 2 overnights in Moshi or Arusha

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – drive to Moshi or drive to Arusha

Upon arrival, you will be met timeously at Kilimanjaro Airport by our transfer specialist who will welcome you and then transfer you to your arranged hotel in Moshi or hotel in Arusha. That evening your mountain guide will meet you for a briefing on the hike and check your trekking gears and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment that you required for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 2: Climbing from Machame Gate 1,790 meter to Machame Camp 2,850 meter.

  • Distance: 10 kilometres
  • Hiking Time: Approximately 5-6 hours

Upon finishing your breakfast, You will be picked up at the hotel and heading to the Machame entrance Gate of mount Kilimanjaro about an hour’s drive. At the gate, your guide will be doing the registration and weighing for the porter’s luggage. while waiting you will be given a lunch box and providing adequate water before starting the hike. Once this is all done, you will start your hiking adventure within the wonderful Montana forest with beautiful trees, ancient fern trees, lichen, beautiful flowers, endemic flowers. The Machame camp is located above the trees at 2850 meters above sea level.

Day 3: Climbing from Machame Camp 2,850 meter to Shira Camp 3,845 meter.

  • Hiking Time:4 hours

Soon as you finish your early morning breakfast, you will begin your second-day hiking with the landscaped trail into moorland and heather land. The landscape will offer you to see the beautiful mountain range, You will be arriving at the Shira camp around mid-afternoon, and have a hot lunch at Shira cave camp, The camp gives you an awesome view of the mountain and experiences the sunset.

Day 4: Climbing from Shira Camp 3,845 meter to Lava Tower 4,640 meter to Barranco Camp 3,960 meter.

  • Distance:10 kilometres
  • Hiking Time:6-7 hours

After having a delicious breakfast, you will start the hike to Lava tower 4640 meters above sea level where you will stop for lunch and after lunch, you will descend to Barranco Camp 4960 meters. This will let your body to acclimatize very well since you have relative altitude. The vegetation will start to change and become an alpine desert with some of its beautiful flowers like Senecio Kilimanjaro, Lobelia.

Day 5: Climbing from Barranco Camp 3,960 meter to Karanga Camp 4,035 meter.

  • Distance: 6 kilometres
  • Hiking Time: 4 hours

The trail with its ascent and descent will be giving you a better chance for more acclimatization before reaching the base camp. At the beginning of the trek, the Barranco wall stands before you conquer it during climbing the Barranco wall you will require to use both hands for a better balance, Also your guide will be assisting you in every step while climbing the Barranco wall.

Day 6: Climbing from Karanga Camp 4,035 meter to Barafu Camp 4,640 meter.

  • Distance:4 kilometres
  • Hiking Time:3 hours

After enjoying an energetic breakfast, you will be starting your trek to the base camp- Barafu Camp. This day you will be walking through the alpine desert with a view of the Kibo summit on your left side. After reaching Barafu Camp you will be served an early dinner then after dinner, your guide will come for the final briefing.

Day 7: Climbing from Barafu Camp 4,640 meter to Uhuru Peak 5,895 meter to Mweka Camp 3,080 meter.

  • Distance:5.5 kilometres to Uhuru 
  • Hiking Time: 6-7 hours 
  • time:4-5 hours from Barafu to Mweka

During the final ascent to the summit at midnight, your guide will wake you up with a hot cup of tea/coffee and some biscuits to get ready for climbing to the summit. During trekking to the summit, you will be required to use a headlamp. As you get close to Stella’s point it is where you can start enjoying the sun rising over the beautiful African landscape. From Stella Point on the way to the Uhuru peak, you will walk through the crater rim and enjoying beautiful glaciers. After seeing this incredible view and achievement you will be descent back the same route to Barafu Camp. Your team awaits you with some refreshments. You will take a break for an hour before descending to Mweka Camp for the final night on the Roof 0f Africa

Day 8: Descending from Mweka Camp 3,080 meter to Mweka Gate 1,630 meter to Moshi.

  • Distance: 10 kilometres
  • Descending Time:3-4 hours

On the last day after a delicious breakfast, you will experience the traditional ceremony from your mountain teams before the final descend to Mweka gate. You will descent back through the rainforest and it will give you another chance to see colobus monkeys, you will finally arrive at mweka gate, your guide will present with your Certificate of accomplishment after successfully reaching to the top of Africa Mount Kilimanjaro. The car will be ready to take you back to your arranged hotel.

Day 9: Departure from Moshi or Arusha to Kilimanjaro Airport.

  • Driving Time: 1 hour

Upon finishing breakfast, The office driver will take you to Kilimanjaro airport, or you can extend your trip to Tanzania by adding Safari and Zanzibar holiday.
