Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

After breakfast, depart from Dar es Salaam and begin your journey to Mikumi National Park. The drive takes you through changing landscapes, local villages, and scenic countryside before reaching the park. Upon arrival, begin your first game drive across the open plains of Mikumi, often compared to the Serengeti for its broad grasslands and excellent visibility. During your afternoon safari, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeests, impalas, and a variety of birds. Lions are also commonly seen resting under acacia trees or watching nearby herds. Later in the day, transfer to your lodge and enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by nature.

Full Day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

Spend a full day exploring the wildlife-rich landscapes of Mikumi National Park. Morning and afternoon game drives provide excellent opportunities to discover different areas of the park. You may see large herds of zebras and wildebeests grazing on the plains, elephants moving through woodland areas, giraffes browsing on acacia trees, and buffalo gathering near water sources. Mikumi is also home to predators such as lions, hyenas, and occasionally leopards. Birdlife is abundant, with many species seen around wetlands and open grasslands. Return to your lodge in the evening after a rewarding day of wildlife viewing.

Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Nyerere National Park

After breakfast, depart for Nyerere National Park, formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve. The journey takes you through scenic southern Tanzania landscapes before arriving in one of Africa’s largest protected wilderness areas. This region is known for its rivers, lakes, woodlands, and open plains that support an impressive diversity of wildlife. On arrival, enjoy the atmosphere of the Rufiji ecosystem where hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, and a variety of birds are often seen near the riverbanks. Settle into camp and enjoy the peaceful wilderness surroundings.

Full Day Game Drive in Nyerere National Park

Spend a full day exploring the vast landscapes of Nyerere National Park with extensive game drives. The park offers excellent wildlife viewing with chances to spot elephants moving in family groups, buffalo herds, giraffes, zebras, and several antelope species. Predators such as lions, hyenas, and leopards may also be encountered. Near rivers and lakes, hippos and crocodiles are frequently seen, while the surrounding habitats attract a rich variety of birdlife. The combination of riverine scenery, open plains, and remote wilderness makes this day especially rewarding.

Morning Game Drive and Transfer back to Dar es Salaam for Departure

Begin the day with a morning game drive, when wildlife is often most active. This is a good time to look for predators returning from the night, elephants moving through the bush, and herds of antelope grazing in the early light. After breakfast, begin your journey back to Dar es Salaam. Arrive later in the day, marking the end of your southern Tanzania safari with memorable wildlife encounters and beautiful landscapes.
