The 6 days Machame route, known as the famous "Whiskey Route" is a scenic and adventurous way to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro. This route offers stunning landscapes from lush rainforest to alpine desert before reaching the summit at Uhuru Peak. Transfer from Kilimanjaro Airport to Hotel

Upon arrival, you will be met timeously at Kilimanjaro Airport by our transfer specialist who will welcome you and then transfer you to your arranged hotel in Arusha. That evening your mountain guide will meet you for a briefing on the hike and check your trekking gears and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment that you required for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Mweka gate to Mweka Camp

After breakfast you will drive to Machame Gate where park registration is completed before the trek begins you served hot lunch. The trail starts in the lush rainforest zone, where tall trees covered with moss and hanging vines create a dense canopy overhead. The path can be muddy and humid but is full of life, with possibilities of spotting monkeys and many bird species. The trail gradually ascends through the forest until you reach Machame Camp. Here you will spend your first night on the mountain while enjoying delicious dinner prepared by our professional mountain chef.

Machame Camp to Shira

After Breakfast you leaving the rainforest behind, the trail climbs steeply through the heath and moorland zone, where the landscape becomes more open and dramatic. Giant heathers and volcanic rock formations dominate the scenery as you continue ascending along ridges with spectacular views of the mountain. As you gain altitude, the air becomes cooler and thinner. Eventually you reach the wide Shira Plateau and arrive at Shira Camp where you will enjoy panoramic views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding wilderness.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

This is an important acclimatization day. The trail gradually climbs toward the striking volcanic formation known as Lava Tower at approximately 4,630 meters you stop here for hot lunch and short break before descent to Barranco camp. Spending time at this higher altitude helps your body adapt to the thinner air. After reaching Lava Tower, the trail descends into the scenic Barranco Valley where you will arrive at Barranco Camp. The camp is located beneath the impressive Barranco Wall and is surrounded by giant senecio plants and breathtaking mountain scenery.

Barranco Camp to Katanga Camp via Karanga Camp

After breakfast you start the hike toward the Barafu camp. The day begins with the famous climb up the Barranco Wall, a fun and rewarding scramble with spectacular views from the top. After descending slightly, the trail continues toward Karanga Camp where trekkers stop briefly for rest and lunch. The route then continues upward through the alpine desert terrain toward Barafu Camp, which serves as the base camp for the summit attempt. After arriving, you will have an early dinner and rest before the midnight summit climb.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Gate

You will be awakened at midnight and after a light breakfast you start trekking at around 1 AM. It is at this stage that the climb becomes much more difficult. The ascent is slow and steady due to the high altitude. After several hours of climbing you reach Stella Point on the crater rim just in time for sunrise. From here you continue along the rim for the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photographs, you begin the descent back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp where you spend the final night on the mountain
