Mkomazi National Park

Mkomazi National Park is a stunning national park in Tanzania’s northwestern region. The park’s wilderness is breathtaking. The animals are commonly seen in arid nyika. Elephant, buffalo, and various predators share the reserve with giraffe, oryx, gerenuk, hartebeest, lesser kudu, eland, impala, and other wildlife. Mkomazi’s birds are significantly more diverse, with over 400 species recorded. Doves, hornbills, weaver birds, and guinea-fowl are all plentiful. It also has the violet wood-hoopoe and the martial eagle.Mkomazi National Park’s Main Attractions Include: Mount Kilimanjaro can be visible depending on the weather. The black rhinoceros and the wild dog have been reintroduced to the area. With 450 bird species, there are plenty of opportunities for birding. Go-away birds, ostriches, long-crested eagles, hoopoes, and bustards are among the most regularly encountered species. Kingfishers, flamingos, cormorants, plovers, ducks, and crocodiles can all be seen basking on the banks of the Umba River.

Best time to Visit Mkomazi National Park:

Late June to October is the optimum and best time to visit the park. The foliage is sparse during the dry season, and animals congregate near water. At this time of year, the scenery and mountain views are better.

How to get to Mkomazi National Park:

By Road: Mkomazi is readily reached via Same, which is located on the paved road that connects Arusha and Dar es Salaam.

Njiro, Kivingo, and Umba gates provide easy entrance to the park by special arrangement.
By Air: Charter flights to Kisima airstrip are available.
