6 Days Rongai route trekking, the Rongai route is the spectacular awesome route approaches the summit from the less walking at the dry, north-eastern side of Mount Kilimanjaro. The hike starts close to the Kenyan border and gives stunning and interesting views under the African skies and Mawenzi Peak. The trails are well progress and go through the green forests, rain forests, and alpine deserts. Although the Rongai route can be generally considered as an also easy route on Mount Kilimanjaro, the stages of the rock in the summit area are sometimes a little more physically demanding. After the summit the descend route is through the Marangu route and traverses the lush and Montana forest on the trails. Hikers will sleep at mountain tents during climb even on descending.

6 Days Rongai route climbing Kilimanjaro Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – drive to Moshi.

Upon arrival, you will meet office driver on time at Kilimanjaro Airport who will welcome you and take you to the waiting vehicle then transfer you to the hotel in Moshi or Arusha. That evening your mountain guide will meet you for a briefing on the next day morning hike and checking for your trekking gears and ensure that you will have all the necessary equipment needed during climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 2: Climbing from Nalemuru Gate 1,990 meter to Simba Camp 2,625 meter.

After having your breakfast, you will be driven all over Mt Kilimanjaro to its north-western part and after 4 hours, you will reach the Nalemoru Gate. After all, the registration process has been done and all the luggage has been divided between the porters, your real adventure will begin. The trail passes alongside mountain farmers’ fields and alpine forests before it enters the sparse mountain forest zone, where black and white colobus monkeys can often be seen. After an approximate 3 to 4-hour hike, you will reach the Simba Camp where you will overnight.

Day 3: Climbing from Simba Camp 2,625 meter to Kikelewa Camp 3,630 meter.

Today’s hike going through the heather and moorland zones and the outlook of Mawenzi and the vast Kenyan steppes are nothing short of grand. You will get lunch at the Second Cave (3,450 meters above the sea level) and after a short break, you will go over the undulating terrain to Kikelewa Camp. This camp boasts of breathtaking views and after a strenuous day’s hike, you can relax and take in its peaceful atmosphere.

Day:4 Climbing from Kikelewa Camp 3,630 meter to Mawenzi Turn Hut 4,310 meter

The typical landscape vegetation will soon disappear and the scenery will become more barren with the occasional rock formations. During the good weather, you can appreciate the breath-taking views of the Kibo and Mawenzi summits as well as Kenya’s savannah grasslands. After crossing a few more rock formations, you will be reaching the Mawenzi Hut. For many mountain hikers, it is the most atmospheric camp on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 5:Climbing from Mawenzi Tarn Hut 4,310 meter to Kibo Hut 4,700 meter.

  • Distance:8 kilometres
  • Hiking Time:6 hours

On a relatively simple trail, today’s leg will bring you over the Kibo Saddle. The absence of vegetation is one of the characteristics of the landscape here as only a few types of grass and other plant species can get along in this dry area and thin air. Just before today’s destination is reached, one last rock passage has to be conquered. Finally, you will reach the School Hut, where you can calm and mentally prepare yourself for tomorrow’s summit final.

Day 6: Climbing from Kibo Hut 4,700 meter to Uhuru Peak 5,895 meter to Horombo Hut 3,720 meter.

  • Distance:5 kilometres
  • Hiking Time:7-8hours

The trek starts at around midnight after a 5 to 7-hour walk on frozen volcanic ash, you will make it to Gillman’s Point 5,715 mitres on the crater’s edge. The sunrise will warm you while you climb for another 1 to 2 hours until you arrive at Uhuru Peak and finally stand on “Africa’s highest mountain”. The descent on the now thawed lava ash runs almost along the same route and you will arrive at the Kibo hut in the late morning. A hot lunch will be served and after a well-getting break, the descent continues to the Horombo Hut.

Day 7: Trekking from Horombo Hut 3,720 meter to Marangu Gate 1,860 meter to Moshi or Arusha

  • Distance:18 kilometres
  • Hiking Time:6 hours

 After breakfast, you will be trekking for approximately 5 hours, you will have dominated the easy descent and you will return to the Marangu Gate during the early afternoon. You will wait for your guide to sign for your certificate and give it to you, The transfer will take your arranged Hotel for a long shower and calm day by the pool.

Day 8: Departure from Moshi to Kilimanjaro Airport

After your morning breakfast, you will be transferred on time to Kilimanjaro Airport or you can extend your trip to Tanzania by adding a Tanzania safari and Zanzibar holiday.
