13 Days Mount Kilimanjaro trek and Tanzania Safari

Overview

Take the 13 days Mount Kilimanjaro and safari in Tanzania with Tanzania Classic Tours. This thirteen days tour gives you the chance to trek Kilimanjaro via the Machame route for 6 days and a 6-day safari in Tanzania. The safari will have you visit two of the most popular national parks in Tanzania’s Northern Circuit. You will explore the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, Serengeti  and Lake Manyara National parks as part of your 6-day safari from your 13-day trip.

7 Days Kilimanjaro Machame Route and 6 days safari

Day 1: Climb from Machame gate to Machame hut

The drive from Arusha to Kilimanjaro National Park’ Machame gate is approximately 2 hours, the Machame route is located on the slope of the mountain, you will start your walking through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge, you will cover 11 kilometers and hiking time will 5 to 6 hours.

Day 2: Climb from Machame hut to Shira Cave Camp

Your Kilimanjaro specialist team will provide an early breakfast before leaving the Machame camp to Shira cave camp, the path crossing the little valley along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather and moor land until the end of ridge. Shira camp has an incredible view of mountains, sunset view and Kibo glacier view, climb to Shira cave camp will take 3-4 hours thereafter you will have hot lunch at the camp.

Day 3: Climb from Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

After breakfast, you will start climb from the Shira camp to Barranco via lava, the trail is passing the junction toward the peak of kibo, from southeast the direction changes towards the lava tower where we will stop the hot lunch before descending to Barranco camp, walking hours will approximately 6 hours, this day is important for acclimatization and prepare your body for attack summit night

Day 4: Climb from Barranco to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, the trek starts with climbing of Barranco wall to the karanga valley campsite for the hot lunch, you will be walking on a steep ridge passing the Barranco rocks to Karanga valley approximately 3-4 hours of walking.

Day 5: Climb from Barranco to Barafu Camp

Your 7 days Kilimanjaro climb will start with an early breakfast at Karanga camp before you carry on the base camp, you will continue up to Barafu camp with some point which offers views of the summit from different angles, the climb takes approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Day 6: Climb from Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak

Your Tanzania classic tour team will wake you up with hot tea and lights snacks before starting most physical and mentally challenging part of the trek. The summit attack will take 6 to 7 hours to reach uhuru peak 5,895 meters, here you will experience the sun rise on top of Africa, after taking pictures the descent begins the same route and shortly before the midday, you will arrive at Barafu camp for hot lunch and rest before going down to mweka camp for dinner and overnight

Day 7: Descend from Mweka-to-Mweka Gate

After breakfast, your Kilimanjaro climbing adventure will begin with descending down to mweka gate to receive your summit certificate, it will take two hours and a half to descent through rain forest to mweka gate, your transfer driver will take you to your arranged hotel.

Day 8: Transfer to Manyara National Park

We visit Lake Manyara for animals sighting with options for a cultural visit in the nearby village of Mto wa mbu. Manyara National Park is in the great rift valley and the park maintains the green forest which is watered by underground water streams from Ngorongoro highlands. The highlights of Manyara National Park is thousand of flamingo, hot spring, elephant, lion, tree-climbing lion and bird species

Day 9: Drive to Serengeti National Park

After an early morning breakfast, we will be heading to Serengeti National Park through Ngorongoro conservation area, we will have some stop during the journey at some interesting scenic point for you to take pictures and get the full experience of Tanzania classic safari. After animal viewing in Serengeti, you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 10: Full Game Drive in Serengeti

Your 7 days Kilimanjaro climb, and 6 days safari will begin after your breakfast, you will spend the full day observing animals at the different parts of the Serengeti. It is the wildebeest migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about hundreds zebra flow from south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rain season.

Day 11: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, we begin our journey to the northern Serengeti mara river where you will witness the spectacular wildebeest migration. The northern part of Serengeti is covered by shrubs and vegetation that attract various species of herbivores making easier as compared to the open grassland, here you will expect to crocodile preying on wildebeest. After your full day of game viewing, you will be transferred back to your lodge or camp

Day 12: Drive to Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast at your lodge or camp, you will continue with game viewing as we drive to Ngorongoro Crater for a wildlife spotting. You will experience the Maasai tradition life on the way to Ngorongoro Crater. The Crater has vast number of animals including lion, zebra, elephant and various resident animals, it also a good spot to see the rare black rhino

Day 13: Drive to Tarangire National Park

Your expert safari driver will pick you up from the hotel after breakfast and transferred you to Tarangire National Park for the animal sighting. The Park is rich with ancient giant baobab trees, also known as the ‘’Tree of life’’, which cover s most of the landscape of the park, after a full day of game drive, you will be transferred to Airport or hotel in Arusha.

Dependent on your schedule and returning flight, thereafter you will be transferred to the airport on time or to your arranged hotel in Arusha, concluding your 13 days Kilimanjaro and safari in Tanzania.
