Transfer from Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha

Upon arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, will be welcomed by our transfer driver guide with generous smile the guide will great you and assist with your luggage and escort you to the comfortable transfer vehicle for you journey to Arusha town. After check-in, you will have time to relax after your journey and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of northern Tanzania, in evening lead mountain guide will meet you for a detailed briefing about the climb, safety procedures, daily routines on the mountain, and altitude awareness. Your equipment will be checked carefully to ensure you have the proper gear for the trek. The evening is usually spent resting, hydrating, and preparing mentally for the adventure ahead while enjoying your first night near Africa’s highest mountain.

Day 2

Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

In the morning after your breakfast, you will be driven to Londorossi Gate, about 3 hour’s drive from your hotel. Upon completion of all the entry formalities and a final 15 km drive on a bumpy road, you will reach your starting point at the edge of the Montana forest. You will get your lunch before you set out on the trail via the rainforest. Today’s walk is quite short, about 3 hours, as opposed to the days ahead, this will give you time to enjoy the lush scenery which will drastically change over the course of your climb. You might even see white and black colobus monkeys sitting in the branches above.

Day 3

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

As you start walking along the narrow route via the rainforest, you will find the vegetation becoming increasingly sparse until you finally arrive at moorland filled with Lobelia and Erica plants. Ascending via rolling hills, you will approach Shira 1 Camp in about 4 hours. Looking over the Shira Plateau from your camp you will be able to see the snow-capped summit of Kibo. A hearty evening meal and a last glimpse at the starry sky will bring the day to a close.

Day 4

Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

This day is a relatively gentle trek across the wide Shira Plateau, allowing your body to continue adjusting to the altitude. The trail gradually ascends through rolling moorland terrain dotted with unique alpine plants such as giant lobelias and senecios. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as the massive cone of Kibo rises in front of you. Along the way your guide may lead a short acclimatization walk to help your body adapt to the thinning air. In afternoon you reach Shira 2 Camp, which sits on open ground with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The rest of the afternoon is spent resting, hydrating, and preparing for the important acclimatization day ahead.

Day 5

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

Today is one of the most important acclimatization days of the climb. The trail gradually climbs toward the impressive volcanic formation known as Lava Tower, you reaching an altitude of around 4,630 meters. This steep ascent allows your body to experience higher altitude before descending again, following the principle of “climb high, sleep low.” The landscape here is stark and dramatic, with volcanic rock fields and sweeping views across the mountain. After spending some time near Lava Tower, the trail descends into the beautiful Barranco Valley. The descent brings noticeable relief as the altitude drops. You arrive at Barranco Camp that located beneath the towering cliffs of the famous Barranco Wall. This is one of the most scenic camps on Kilimanjaro, surrounded by giant groundsels and dramatic glacial valleys.

Day 6

Barranco Camp to Katanga Camp

The morning begins with the exciting climb up the famous Barranco Wall. Although it looks intimidating from below, it is mostly a non-technical scramble and is one of the most enjoyable parts of the trek. From the top of the wall, hikers are rewarded with spectacular views of the glaciers and valleys below. The trail then undulates through several ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp. This shorter hiking day helps with acclimatization and gives trekkers more time to rest. Karanga Camp sits in a beautiful valley surrounded by rugged volcanic landscapes, providing stunning views of the summit slopes ahead.

Day 7

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Today you make your way toward the high alpine desert environment surrounding the summit area. The terrain becomes more barren and rocky as vegetation disappears. The trail gradually ascends along ridges until you reach Barafu Camp, which serves as the base camp for the summit attempt. Barafu means “ice” in Swahili, and the camp sits on an exposed ridge with dramatic views of Mawenzi Peak and the plains far below. After an early dinner, your guide will brief you about the summit attempt. Climbers usually try to sleep early because the summit push begins around midnight.

Day 8

Barafu to Uhuru peak then descent to Mweka Camp

Around midnight, you begin the most challenging and rewarding part of the climb. Using headlamps, you slowly ascend steep switchbacks toward the crater rim. After several hours of steady climbing, you reach Stella Point on the rim of the crater just in time to witness a spectacular sunrise over Africa. From here the trail continues along the crater edge for the final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. After celebrating and taking photos, you begin the long descent back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp in the forest zone for a well-deserved overnight rest.

Day 9

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

On the final morning you descend through lush rainforest trails toward Mweka Gate. The air becomes warmer and thicker as you lose altitude, and the forest is alive with birds and monkeys. At the gate you will sign out of the park and receive your Kilimanjaro summit Gold certificate. From here you are transferred back to your hotel in Arusha where you can enjoy a hot shower, a celebratory meal, and reflect on the incredible achievement of climbing Africa’s highest mountain.
