4-Day Epic Mount Meru Trekking Adventure via Momella Route

After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Arusha National Park. Complete the necessary registration at Momella Gate before beginning your trek.

The trail takes you through lush montane forest, where you may encounter wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, monkeys, and a variety of bird species. Continue gradually uphill through the forest while enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes.

Arrive at Miriakamba Hut in the afternoon, settle in, enjoy dinner, and rest for the next day’s climb.

After breakfast, continue your ascent towards Saddle Hut. The trail gradually becomes steeper as you leave the forest and enter the moorland zone. Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of Mount Meru’s volcanic formations and the surrounding Arusha landscapes. Upon reaching Saddle Hut, enjoy lunch and take time to rest. In the afternoon, you may take a short acclimatization hike towards Little Meru, offering beautiful views and helping prepare your body for the summit. Return to Saddle Hut for dinner and an early night’s rest.

Wake up very early, usually around midnight, and begin your summit ascent under the stars. The trail becomes increasingly challenging as you climb towards Rhino Point and Cobra Point before reaching the dramatic crater rim. Continue along the narrow ridge towards Socialist Peak (4,566 m), the highest point of Mount Meru. Reach the summit around sunrise and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and, weather permitting, Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs, descend back to Saddle Hut for a well-earned breakfast and rest before continuing down to Miriakamba Hut.

After breakfast, begin your final descent through the beautiful montane forest towards Momella Gate. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and your last views of Mount Meru as you make your way down the mountain. Upon reaching Momella Gate, meet your driver and transfer back to Arusha. Your epic 4-day Mount Meru trekking adventure comes to an end with unforgettable memories and the achievement of conquering one of Tanzania’s most spectacular peaks.
