6-Day Mount Meru & Oldoinyo Lengai Trekking Adventure

After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Arusha National Park, where your Mount Meru adventure begins. After completing the necessary registration, start trekking through lush montane forest accompanied by your mountain guide and support crew. Along the trail, you may encounter wildlife such as buffaloes, giraffes, and various bird species. Continue through the forest and gradually ascend towards Miriakamba Hut, where you will spend the evening resting and enjoying dinner.

After breakfast, continue your ascent towards Saddle Hut. The trail becomes steeper as you pass through beautiful montane vegetation and open landscapes. Along the way, enjoy impressive views of Mount Meru’s dramatic slopes and the surrounding Arusha area. Upon reaching Saddle Hut, settle in and rest while preparing for the early-morning summit attempt.

Begin your summit ascent in the early hours of the morning, climbing towards Socialist Peak. As you gain altitude, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with spectacular views of the crater and surrounding volcanic formations. Reach the summit and take time to appreciate the panoramic scenery before beginning your descent. Continue down the mountain and eventually return to the park gate, where your vehicle will meet you for the transfer back to Arusha.

After breakfast, depart Arusha and travel towards Lake Natron through the scenic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley. The journey takes you through remote areas and Maasai communities, offering a glimpse into rural Tanzania. Upon arrival at Lake Natron, check in at your camp and relax while enjoying the spectacular surroundings. Prepare for the Oldoinyo Lengai trek later in the evening.

Spend part of the day exploring the fascinating Lake Natron area. Depending on the timing, enjoy a guided walk around the lake or visit the nearby waterfalls while learning about the area’s unique ecosystem and local Maasai culture.

Later, return to the camp for an early dinner and preparation for the overnight Oldoinyo Lengai trek. Begin the ascent during the night with an experienced mountain guide. The climb involves steep volcanic terrain and requires good physical fitness. Continue ascending through the night toward the summit.

Reach the summit of Oldoinyo Lengai and enjoy spectacular views across the Great Rift Valley and surrounding landscapes, subject to weather and summit conditions. After spending time at the summit, begin the descent back towards Lake Natron. Return to the lodge for breakfast and some rest before starting the drive back to Arusha.

Arrive in Arusha later in the day, marking the end of your Mount Meru and Oldoinyo Lengai trekking adventure.
