All about this Tour

7 Days Rongai route trekking, the Rongai route is the spectacular awesome route that approaches the summit from the less walking at the dry, north-eastern side of Mount Kilimanjaro. The hiker starts close to the Kenyan border and gives interesting views under the African skies and Mawenzi Peak. The trails are well progress and go through the green forests, rain forest, and alpine desert. Although the Rongai route can be generally considered as an also easy route on Mount Kilimanjaro, the stages of the rock in the summit area are sometimes a little more physically demanding. After the summit the descend route is via Marangu route and crosses the lush and Montana forest on the trails. Hikers will sleep at mountain tents during the full climb even on descending.

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed your transfer drive guide and transferred to your hotel in Arusha for relaxation and overnight stay and evening you will meet your mountain guide for a detailed briefing about your upcoming trek on Mount Kilimanjaro via the Rongai Route.

Simba Camp

After breakfast you will meet with our local team for scenic drive to Rongai Gate near the Kenyan border where park registration will be completed before starting your climb, the trek begins through beautiful farmland and pine forest before gradually entering the mountain rainforest zone, along the trail you may spot monkeys and various bird species while enjoying the peaceful and less-crowded northern side of Kilimanjaro the hike to Simba Camp takes 3–4 hours with gradual elevation gain, allowing your body to begin acclimatizing to the altitude.

Secand Cave Camp

After breakfast, your ascent across open moorland landscapes with spectacular views of the Kenyan plains and the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro and the vegetation becomes smaller as you gain altitude and enter the heath and moorland zone. The trek is steady and moderate allowing for proper acclimatization while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the Rongai Route.

Day 4

Kikelewa Camp

After breakfast you trekking toward Kikelewa Camp through dramatic alpine landscapes and giant senecio plants unique to Kilimanjaro’s high-altitude environment and the trail becomes steeper in some sections as you gain elevation, but the pace remains slow and comfortable to support acclimatization along the route you enjoy breathtaking views across the surrounding wilderness and volcanic scenery.

Day 5

Mawenzi Tarn Camp

After breakfast continue your climb toward Mawenzi Tarn located at beneath the dramatic spires of Mawenzi Peak, the hike is shorter but steeper as you enter the alpine desert zone with spectacular views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, upon arrival at Mawenzi Tarn Camp, enjoy lunch and spend the afternoon resting and acclimatizing at higher altitude.

Kibo Hut

After an early breakfast, cross the vast alpine desert saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks on your way to Kibo Hut and the landscape is barren and lunar-like, creating a unique high-altitude experience as you approach the summit zone of Kilimanjaro. The hike is gradual but challenging due to the altitude and thinner air, upon arrival at Kibo Hut in the afternoon, rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 7

Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

After having hot tea and light snacks, the trek will start at midnight. By using a headlight, you will climb the screes of Kibo. After 5 to 6 hours of climbing in the dark, you will get to Grimans point, You will have Another 1-hour trekking along the crater ridge will take you to Uhuru Peak (the summit) at 5,895 meters. Here you will see Kilimanjaro in all its glory, enjoying the 360° view over the landscape below as the sun rises. You are now standing on the “Top of Africa”. After taking pictures and all your explorations, the simple descent starts almost along the same route and shortly before midday you will arrive back at Kibo Hut and after having a hot meal and a well-deserved break of approximately 1 hour, you will be on the way going down to Horombo Hut 3,720 meter.

Marangu Gate

After breakfast, continue descending through the moorland and rainforest zones toward Marangu Gate where you will receive your summit certificates upon successful completion of the climb and your driver will meet you at the gate and transfer you back to your hotel in Arusha for a hot shower, relaxation, and celebration of your Kilimanjaro achievement
