This short adventure takes you from the coast into wide open plains where elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeests, and a rich variety of birdlife can be seen.

Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park by SGR

Early in the morning, depart from Dar es Salaam by the Standard Gauge Railway. The train journey offers scenic views of countryside landscapes, local villages, and changing vegetation as you travel toward Mikumi. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to Mikumi National Park for your first game drive. The park’s open plains and acacia woodlands provide excellent wildlife viewing. During the afternoon safari, you may encounter elephants moving through the grasslands, giraffes browsing on trees, zebras and wildebeests grazing in groups, buffalo near water sources, and a variety of antelopes. Lions are also often seen resting in the shade or watching nearby herds. After the game drive, transfer to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Morning Game Drive and Return to Dar es Salaam by SGR

Begin the day with an early morning game drive, one of the best times to see wildlife when temperatures are cool and animals are active. You may spot lions on the move, elephants feeding, giraffes crossing the plains, and zebras gathering in the open grasslands. Birdlife is also especially active in the early hours. After the game drive, return for breakfast before transferring back to the station for your return journey by Standard Gauge Railway to Dar es Salaam. Arrive later in the day, marking the end of your short but rewarding Mikumi safari.
