Discover Kilimanjaro's North with the Exclusive Rongai Route
Rongai Route is actually the only path that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border, is the Rongai way. Despite its growing popularity among climbers, this route still sees few climbers.
Rongai has a gentler incline than the other paths on the mountain. It is the recommended way for those seeking an alternative to the popular Marangu route, as well as those seeking a more secluded trip or climbing during the wet season (the north side receives less precipitation). Rongai is a somewhat demanding route that is highly recommended, especially for people who are new to backpacking.
Rongai makes up for its lack of variety in the scenery by going through actual wilderness areas for virtually the whole journey. The Marangu path is taken for the descent. Rongai is available as a seven-day group climb or a six- or seven-day private climb with Tanzania Classic Tours. On day four of the six-day variant, there is no acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarn.
