You’re undoubtedly eager to begin your journey in Tanzania after making airline reservations and organizing a safari! However, there are a few less pleasant elements to consider before embarking on your journey, such as tropical illness immunizations. Evaluate your health records to verify if you’ve already had some of the immunizations that are recommended or required.
Yellow Fever Vaccinations
Tanzania requires a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate for travelers from risk countries to maintain a Yellow Fever-free record. Travelers from non-risk nations may be asked for documentation randomly. It's advised to obtain the immunization and carry proof, like a vaccination card, to prevent delays. Ensure the vaccination is done at least 10 days before travel. The certificate may also be required if arriving from East African countries or recent visits to Yellow Fever-risk areas.
Malaria Control
Malaria risk is decreasing in Tanzania, but some areas remain a threat. It's spread by infected mosquitoes. Protect yourself with mosquito repellent (DETA 20-30%) and nets. No vaccine exists, but antimalarial medications like Malarone, Doxycycline, and Lariam are available. Consult your doctor before use. If you experience symptoms like fever, chills, vomiting, or diarrhea in Tanzania or upon return, seek medical help.
